    Grand Canyon University’s Police Department is seeking full time Seasonal Police Officers to ensure the safety and security of the GCU campus. The GCU Police Department performs general and specialized police work involving the enforcement of laws and ordinances, crime prevention, and other community services. GCU Police Officers serve a very positive and supportive campus community.

    What you will do:

    + Patrols assigned areas of Grand Canyon University owned properties, by automobile, foot or bicycle, for the prevention of crime and enforcement of all applicable criminal, traffic, and liquor laws and City Ordinances.

    + Responds to calls for service involving crimes such as thefts, robberies, assaults, homicides, and narcotics violations. Responds to all calls for service including those that do not involve crimes but are civil or societal issues requested police presence.

    + Secures the scene of a crime; makes arrests; books suspects. Prepares reports to accurately document information.

    + Responds to hazardous materials incidents and traffic accidents; investigates traffic accidents; detects impaired drivers; administers first aid; directs traffic and requests medical assistance.

    + Participate in problem-oriented policing efforts by identifying problem areas, recommending and implementing solutions, and monitoring the results. Handle hostage negotiations; performs suicide prevention interventions; transports mentally ill patients.

    + Serves court orders (e.g., subpoenas), arrest warrants, and mental health orders.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned.

    What you need:

    + High school diploma, or equivalent.

    + Minimum of 5 years as a Police Officer. (At the discretion of the Chief, years of service can be waived.)

    + Must have Arizona Post Certification, either active or inactive. Must continuously meet all requirements and standards of AZ POST.

    + Must have valid Arizona Driver’s License and be insurable.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain ACJIS Terminal Operator’s Certification.

    + Must successfully pass a physical exam, polygraph test, psychological assessment, physical agility test, background investigation, and drug test.

    + Ability to work four 10-hour shifts per week; overtime, holiday, weekend and shift work (days, swings or graveyard shifts).

    + Occasional risk includes physical hazards from violent, aggressive and hostile people, a variety of weapons, bodily fluids, sharp objects, traffic, drugs and drug paraphernalia and civil litigation due to performance of duties also creating high stress situations.

    Written Examination:After submitting your application, you will be contacted by the City of Chandler, Human Resources Department with complete instructions on how and when to complete the required written examination.     After receiving written examination instructions from Human Resources, sign up to take the examination right away. Once you have taken the examination, be sure to share your results with the City of Chandler. Your examination results are good for 12-months; however, if you took the examination previously, you do not need to take it again. All applicants who receive a passing score on the examination, will be placed on the department’s eligibility list.

    Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to City of Chandler Police Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on City of Chandler Police Department’s eligibility list. The City of Chandler Police Department will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.

    The NTN is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. The NTN service does not replace the City of Chandler Police Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to City of Chandler Police Department where the final decisions are made.

    AZ POST PH Form:After completing and passing the NTN written examination, applicants will be contacted by the City of Chandler, Human Resources Department with complete instructions on how and when to complete the AZPOST PH Form.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Must be a U.S. citizen and a high school graduate or have a GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at the starting date of employment. By the starting date, must be a resident of the state of Arizona and possess a valid Arizona driver license.

    Must obtain ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout the course of this assignment with the Department.
