Day to Day:

This position will monitor and control multiple z/OS mainframes distributed in two locations to ensure high availability and attainment of industry class service levels. This position performs service disruption detection, service recovery, escalation, and communications to ensure quick response to service disruptions. This position also provides proactive monitoring of all factors having a bearing on high availability and service level attainment. This will include frequent interaction with product engineering and support organizations, application development, and business personnel. This individual will be the primary escalation point of contact for our internal customers and leads staff performing monitoring of enterprise wide alerts, as well as performing work within ITO's incident, problem, change management systems as well as providing initial triage on events.

Essential Functions

Lead mainframe staff with supporting and recovering Mainframe infrastructure, under general supervision.

Document and communicate actions in collaboration with teammates.

Perform changes within established guidelines and under general supervision.

Provide support for routine production problems that have been escalated to the command center and/or technicians.

Evaluate issues and escalates to senior technicians, engineers, and/or the vendor as appropriate.

Track the status of the issue and provides updates to stakeholders as required.

Update internal ticketing systems as required.

Build productive internal/external working relationships with peer level positions to ensure tasks are completed.

Mentoring and training of junior employees.

Complete work assignments based on departmental priorities and system criticality.

Maintain and increase technical knowledge by attending training activities and establishing personal networks.

Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Skills and Requirements

Must Haves:

8 or more years of experience in a large 7x24 high available data center environment.

In-depth knowledge demonstrated experience and have a high level ability in the following technical operating areas: Computer operations including monitoring, controlling and systems recovery of MVS, VTAM, JES, Netview and large IBM compatible mainframes, DASD storage and automated tape libraries.

Advanced knowledge of z/oS Operating Systems, and CICS Applications, tools, and monitors.

High level of awareness around critical production applications, for example: RRBUS, BPI.

High level of knowledge around critical systems.

High level of knowledge around application dependencies.

Use of Formula to acknowledge, investigate, close, or escalate alerts.

Use of Remedy to create, document, escalate, and re-assign tickets.

Able to perform administrative tasks such as paging ONCALLs with xMatters, using TechlineChat, and answering calls from phone queue if necessary. null
